Before you adopt from us, we’d like you to complete our Pre-Adoption Questionnaire here https://goo.gl/forms/FBCxAjbf2hgufsPx2.
When you've completed the questionnaire, it adds you to our waitlist and lets us know you're interested in adopting from us.
Once a new litter is born we will be in touch with those on the waiting list to see who is still interested in adopting. We cannot guarantee that there will be enough babies for everyone on the waiting list and we have the right to decline an adopter if we don’t believe a home is suitable for our rats.
Unfortunately you cannot reserve or pick a particular rat, first choice will go to myself and other NZ Registered Rat Breeders. Homes may not be confirmed until 5-6 weeks.
We do not take deposits and you can change your mind at any time, but please keep us in the loop as soon as possible if you do change your mind so we can find the ratties a new home.
If you’ve got any additional questions, or unsure on how to answer any of the questions in the pre-adoption questionnaire, please message us via our Facebook page and we'll try and get back to you ASAP.
Adoption prices are:
$100 for a pair + standard adoption pack
$120 for a pair + premium adoption pack
$140 for a trio + standard adoption pack
$160 for a trio + premium adoption pack
Each pair/trio of rats adopted, comes with an adoption pack - regardless of whether they're being picked up or going via pet transport.
Our adoption packs vary depending on the seasons, and what goodies we can source.
Please let us know whether you'd prefer a standard or premium adoption pack.
Babies will only be adopted out in same-sex pairs, and are strictly pet only.
We offer the option to choose whether they'd like our standard option pack or the premium adoption pack.
We try to include items we've either made ourselves, thrifted or sourced via NZ made small businesses.
If adopting a trio, we will have additional quantities in the adoption packs.
Standard option pack includes:
Snuggle sack
1 handmade forage toy
1 handmade enrichment toy
Treats
Baby food pouch
Birth certificate
Rat care brochure

Depending on the season, sometimes we will also have:
Nuts in shells (hazelnuts, macadamia or walnut)
Dehydrated forage

2 handmade enrichment toys

Babies are able to go to their new homes from 8 weeks of age however we are happy to hold onto them longer in instances were they need to go via pet transport.
We would prefer to adopt our rats out locally, but we can send them via pet transport a fee (the actual pet transport charges is the responsibility of the adopters) but this will have to be organised by the adopter in advance.
Once we've decided who we're keeping, we'll contact everyone on our waitlist to see if you're still looking for rats.
From there we will need some additional information, such as pictures of your set ups and will want a chat with future adopters to make sure its a good fit.
Should your circumstances change or you are no longer able to care for our rats once they are with you, you must contact us first and foremost before looking to re-home as I am always happy to take them back.
PLEASE NOTE: We do not adopt to minors without parental consent, nor do we adopt to any education centres (this includes early childhood education centres, any kind of school, university or polytech).
